Overview of Lip Reading Methods: Issues, Current Developments, and Future Prospects
Abstract
Lip reading, also known as speech reading, is a technique for understanding spoken words by interpreting the speaker's facial expressions and lip movements. It is a helpful tool for those who are deaf or hard of hearing and can also be utilised in noisy settings where it is challenging to understand auditory communication. The development of automatic lip-reading algorithms employing computer vision and machine learning methods has advanced significantly in recent years. We will discuss about some of the most popular lip-reading techniques in this review.
